Good day for bird pics, bad day for ants

So since it wasn’t raining today, I thought I’d go take some birds pics. Long story short- I spent the afternoon in the ER.

While I was shooting this Red-shouldered Hawk I was bitten by some ants. 10 minutes later I was swelling up and had hives. I went to ER, they took me right away. My eyes, ears and mouth was swollen.
Damn ants. Anyway, they took care of me and I’m OK now.

Taken with Canon 70D with 100-400mm L II IS lens @300mm, f6.3, 1/400 sec 200 ISO.

Adolescent Bald Eagle sitting in tree

This is 1 of the 2 Adolescent Bald Eagles that we have in the area.  They are around 9 months old.  I’ve been photographing over that time period but this is the first time he/she came and sat outside my window.

He/she likes to sit there and squawk and make noise.  I don’t mind.  I just wish he would turn and face me (camera) so I can take a front view pic.

Taken with Canon 70D with Canon 100-400mm L II IS lens.
ISO 200, F5, 1/320 sec, at 220mm.

Osprey hawk came to visit

The Osprey hawk visited today and sat and posed for me.

I love the detail in his/her feathers.  Also I love the death stare.

There are 3 Osprey that fly around in our area.  This one sat while the other 2 were flying high above.

This was taken with Canon 70D with Canon 100-400mm II L lens.

Guess WHO came to visit…

We had a visitor the other day.

At first I didn’t see him/her. Blended so well into the tree. But then, I saw the eyes.  The bright yellow eyes staring back at me. It was a Great Horned Owl.

It sat there for a few minutes. Just long enough for me to grab my camera and take a few pics.  Then it flew off. I hope it comes back to visit again.

Bald Eagle coming right at me

Well, not actually right at me.  The Bald Eagle looks as if it were coming at me on this take off but it flew above and to the right of me. I guess wearing the bunny ears worked.  Just kidding.

I love the look on its face.  Great stare.  Not sure what I would have done if it came right at me.

This was taken in Lakewood Ranch, FL.
I used Canon 70D with Canon 100-400mm II L lens.

Bald (Eagle) is Beautiful

I found this proud bald eagle not far from my home in Sarasota, FL.

He is keeping a watchful eye out while his nest with a couple babies is close by.

I love the look and feeling of this image.  Any thoughts?

What’s for dinner?

I found this Osprey Hawk nest on top of a street lamp post.

Just as I was taking a few images, dad returns home with dinner.

Taken with Canon 70D + Canon 100-400mm II L lens.

Osprey visits with breakfast

The local Osprey hawk came by this morning with breakfast (a fish). He/she likes to sit on the edge of the roof outside our bedroom.

I wish it wasn’t so cloudy.  This would’ve looked great against a blue sky showing off the feathers.

Image was taken with Canon 70D and Canon 100-400mm L II zoom.

Testing my new Canon lens on nature…

I just received my new lens, Canon 100-400mm L II.  These were my first shots. I went out behind our condo and there was a lot of activity today.  Birds and gator.

I kept my eye on the gator as I was photographing the birds.  I didn’t want to be surprised.

Anyway, I’m happy so far with the lens.  Just need to get used to the size and weight of it.
